About St. Andrew's

The Rev. Thomas Jonathan Jackson, Father Jon, has served St. Andrew’s as Rector
since June of 1998. His artist wife of over 40 years, Marji, has labored at his side.

Following service in the Navy from 1964-71, Jon founded and operated a successful construction business for 25 years. After more than 20 years in one church, Jon and Marji were led to join 16 others in founding a new parish of the Charismatic Episcopal Church (CEC) in April of 1994. Church of the Good Shepherd in Columbia, Maryland is still going strong.

Father Jon is a graduate of St. Michael’s Seminary. In 1998, as he completed his studies, his Bishop asked Jon to serve the parish of St. Andrew’s as Rector. He moved to Petersburg and has served St. Andrew’s since that time. Father Jon and Marji have 3 children and 2 grandchildren.

Fr. Jon is active in the community. He is a member of the Petersburg Breakfast Rotary. He serves as a Police Chaplain, and has been on the boards of the Red Cross and YMCA.

OUR MISSION[cross]

St. Andrew’s exists to witness the love of God to our community in the present and in subsequent generations. We will do this by presenting an alive, yet stable church in which the people of our parish can grow in love with one another and in the knowledge and love of God as revealed by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We desire to live as new creatures in Christ, to be a people of prayer, and to allow Jesus to be Lord of our lives.

St. Andrew’s practices the rich sacramental and liturgical heritage of the ancient Church, experiences the power of Pentecost, and preaches the infallible truth of Holy Scripture. We believe that together, these three streams flow into one mighty river and bring the full expression of loving Christian worship to the one God, in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are normative for today. We pray for healing and wholeness. We offer compassionate aid to our community. St. Andrew’s is committed to the three-fold order of Bishops, Priests, and Deacons in which our leaders oversee and encourage the people of God in ministry. At St. Andrew’s we will never cease giving thanks and praise to an awesome God who first loved us!

As a faithful, Christ-centered people, we believe that the Church must be restored as the center of community life. At St. Andrew’s, we believe that we are to instruct our children in the knowledge of God and in the way they are to go. There is no greater privilege brought by the Gospel than the promise of becoming children of God, brothers and sisters with Jesus Christ and with one another. We are the family of God! God instructs those He loves.
